While this is not entirely (or at all) Regency related, due to popular demand from my friends I decided to post the recipe for the Raw Superfood Brownie Slices that are part of my CORSET CURVES 3 Month Corset + Exercise Experiment.
Because they’re such rich dark chocolate flavour due to the raw coco and cacao nibs, these delicious chocolate nibbles have pretty much replaced all of my other chocolatey junk food, and there was a LOT.
Of course this has had the inadvertent side effect of causing my waist to shrink, and these darling delights satiate my daily chocolate cravings while being wholly natural without processed sugar, and best of all – paleo!
When I originally mentioned them to my Dearest Beloved he wrinkled his nose at the idea because he was expecting a proper brownie and didn’t see how it could be similar without the unhealthy ingredients or baking. He does have a point – these are more like a slim dark chocolate fudge bar and will be quite strong for white or milk chocolate aficionados. However, perhaps that could mean that the chocolate craving is satiated faster? I don’t know.
When my Dearest Beloved first tried them he said he didn’t like them – but within 24 hours he returned asking for more, having decided that in fact his body did quite like that these brownies tasted like chocolate without the sugar lag or other downsides of conventional chocolatey snacks.
So here’s the recipe! I love it and make it about once a week. It takes me about 20 minutes total, including the washing up.
Raven’s Superfood Chocolate Slices
- 1 cup whole walnuts (finely chop 1/4 cup)
- 1 cup Medjool dates, pitted
- 1 cup raw cacao
- 1/2 banana, mashed
- 1 tsp coconut oil
- ¼ tsp sea salt
- 1/4 cup cacao nibs (optional)
- 1tsp probiotic powder (optional)
How to make them :
Using a food processor, grind the walnuts and then dates. Mix the probiotic powder into the raw cacao. Add the cacao, banana, coconut oil and salt. Process until smooth, then and evenly knead in walnuts and cacao nibs.
Line a baking tray and roll the dough into it, pressing it down to be quite shallow. Refrigerate for an hour. Slice into rows of fine narrow rectangles for optimal nibbling. Bon appetite!
I’ve seen some really good results since I started making these brownies. Most importantly, that crazy craving that comes with eating processed sugar just isn’t there any more, so I’m free to eat these as I like. I love knowing that the cacao nibs high in antioxidants and the probiotics are doing good work in my stomach.
I’ve also considered putting chia seeds, hemp hearts, wheatgrass/superfood powder in there as well (1tsp of each) but will see how things go.
Topping these with peanut butter can be a great dessert, and sprinkling cacao-covered pili nuts or goji berries on the top is another option.
Plus, they’re paleo – which means that I will be able to eat them throughout the first two weeks of my CORSET CURVES 3 Month Corset + Exercise Experiment, and that will make things quite a lot more fun on the food front.
I’m glad that I’ll be able to eat them through Months 1, 2, and 3 of this experiment as well as onwards and beyond, making them a valuable and sustainable snack for the long term healthy future.
